Spent all weekend dancing ballroom (stepped on someone doing Bolero) and now I’ve opted at the last possible minute to do my pointe act tonight. Of course my feet hurt! Of course I should stop being stupid and pick a different routine. Of course, I love challenging myself and the thrill of success, so hears to hoping I don’t end up in agony before I hit the stage.

Tonight I’ll be on stage at:

Actually it’s more disgraceful than anything. It’s taken almost all of January just to make a bit of sense out of the whole mess. Delete this, toss that, mail this, sniff check that. Well, February should mean way more artstic merry making, and of course more coffee breaks with friends. By the way, if I didn’t answer your email from 4 months ago, I probably just deleted it (not on purpose), and though I’m a tea drinker and not a coffee drinker, feel free to email me and we’ll meet up for a cup or two.

Artsy stuff:

10pm, February 3rd, 2012

performing at Hypergender Burlesque

The Theme is Passion. I’m a passionate person. So many ideas. So little fabric.

8:30pm, February 7th, 2012

hosting & performing at The Luvely Rae’s One Night Stand

I love that I get to start the evening shaking it with some really fabulous ladies. Sake Fevah, Apathy Angel, Miss Firstbase Fannie, and La Maia. Yes, I’ll be giving out hugs and kisses as has become tradition.

10pm, February 7th, 2012
performing at Geek Girls Burlesque Valetine’s Day show

Classic Pinup Style burlesque show.

10pm, February 16th, 2012
performing at Stand Up and Take Your Clothes Off

This is a great evening of female comedians and female burlesque performers. Not to be missed.

6:30pm, February 21st, 2012
testing new works at Move Me NYC

The weekend that flew by.

Questionable art show in Brooklyn. Crappy customer service and tasteless food at Mary O’s (really a 35 minute wait for a cold salad). A slow day of dancing. And now all I want to do is take a nap so I can dance the night away with Sake Fevah, Tess Trueheart, Foxy Vermouth, Apathy Angel, and Bitty Bamboo at The Luvely Rae’s One Night Stand. The show has had over 120 performers in the past 3 years. That’s a lot of glitter. I’ve met some wonderful people (met a few stinkers too, but that’s show biz) and I’m looking forward to year number 4. If you don’t have Tuesday night plans then stop by Sapphire Lounge. Show starts at 8:30pm, and I’ll be doing a “pretty” routine. Working out a new crazy routine, but the costume won’t be done until next month. www.onenightstandburlesque.com

"Hip-hop is definitely not what it used to be, which was creative, original music."

“Hip-hop is definitely not what it used to be, which was creative, original music.”

- Missy Elliot

Been choreographing a short routine to this little gem.
I love dance and I love my dance friends. Sometimes my burlesque friends seem to only be able to talk about burlesque. Sometimes my pole friends only seem to think of dance in relation to pole. I’ve met countless contemporary dancers who have no appreciation for any style of dance that isn’t contemporary or ballet (they don’t even recognize burlesque and pole and dance styles). Ballet dancers who only think about pointe shoes. You see where this is going. This kind of thinking doesn’t work for me. Sure I have my preferences, but as much as I don’t like Martha Graham style modern dance, I am not going to tell you it isn’t dance. Dance is movement in motion. For this reason I created Move Me NYC. Tonight we’re at Jimmy’s No. 43. I am excited by the idea of meeting new dancers and seeing different views on dance. Let’s strenghten the dance community. It’s time.

‘Tis the season to be thankful for life’s little blessings. We’re thankful for pasties and panties and the very big lineup planned on November 15th at our Tuesday night burlesque show. The Luvely Rae’s One Night Stand welcomes all the way from Boston, burlesque beauty Peril S. Curves. The super sexy Apathy Angel returns for one more sensational night of titillating shimmying (just wanted to use “tit” in a sentence). Former resident performer delighted that Red Hot Pinky, the return of Ula Uberbeusen, and The Flying Fox.

We’re on Foursquare so keep an eye out for upcoming specials.

Nope! I’ve been running around the last 2 days, and today is the first day where I’ve been home long enough to get something done (other than cooking and cleaning). Now I got enough done today, but I did manager to add this post. That’s right folks I’m not dead yet! Though I am a bit hoarse and sleepy.

Photo of the day: The girl can’t help it

This photo is a very typical Rae moment. 99% professional, 1% Christy from Three’s Company. There I was hosting at Masae and Karou’s awesome color explosion birthday show and the top of my dress falls down. Stupid things like that happen to me all the time. With age it’s gotten less ridiculous, and I’ve never been a victim of pantyhose in the skirt or the trailing toilet paper, but pop outs, slip downs, and suddenly see through have long been a problem for me. If it’s a gust of wind, it will find my skirt on the sunniest of days.

Dance of the day: Tango
The Tango renaissance is such a success...

Dance of the day: Tango

The Tango renaissance is such a success story in and of itself. It’s amazing to me when I meet young women who proudly boast they dance “Argentine Tango”. Only 30 years ago, you would have been hard press to find an American woman who wanted to study this dance. There is a bit of snob mentality with some dancers. But I find both American Tango and Argentine Tango to be equally beautiful and complex. Who the hell knew there was a grapevine in Tango?! Ok

Busy NYC

I always felt busy in California. While my friends were headed out to party, I was headed off to 1 of 3 jobs. Actually it became a joke amongst us. Instead of “how was work?”, it was “how many jobs do you have now?”. Once I got to NY, I seemed to keep busy, but it seems that everyone is busy (or at least faking it). When chatting with my New Jersey friends, the level of busy just doesn’t compare to my NYC busy. Ok, ok. To be fair I don’t have a lot of NY friends that work 2 part time jobs while running 2 small businesses, and maintaining unusual hobbies like pole dancing. But I haven’t simply worked a 9-5 in years and I don’t miss it. I miss the fat paycheck, but I guess being in the 99% and “living on the edge” is just more fun.

I do feel blessed that my husband has also jumped on the multitasker band wagon. He was complaining this morning about not having a 3rd job. Hilarious!
